Join us this July for JAZZ at MOCA featuring Magela Herrera.
Magela Herrera’s musical voice is shaped by a dual foundation: her family’s deep-rooted Afro-Cuban traditions and her formal training in classical music at Havana’s Conservatory of Music and the Instituto Superior de Arte. This early grounding evolved into a dynamic, genre-crossing practice that bridges Latin jazz, European jazz, and improvisational forms. From 2004 to 2011, she honed her craft as a member of Mezcla, one of Cuba’s leading jazz and fusion groups, earning a nomination for Best Solo Flute from Jazz Corner magazine for “Quien tiene el ritmo” on the album I’ll See You in Cuba, which was also nominated for Best Album.
JAZZ at MOCA is South Florida’s longest-running free outdoor jazz concert series and one of the museum’s most beloved public programs for in-person open air musical entertainment. Since 1999, Jazz at MOCA has been presented on the MOCA Plaza on the last Friday of the month. Hundreds of concert-goers have enjoyed a free concert, activations, and pay as you wish admission to the museum from 7 to 10 p.m.
Seating starts at 7 PM, concert begins at 8 PM. Registration includes access to the MOCA galleries until 10pm. Guests do not need to check-in upon arrival.
** Weather Policy: To ensure performer safety and protect technical sound equipment, JAZZ at MOCA may be canceled if delayed by rain or inclement weather up to 8:00 PM.
**Please note, seating is first-come first-serve, but you're welcome to bring your own chairs.**
